Wikipedia Edit Wars and Pageview Prophecy

Wikipedia's full edit history and hourly pageview counts are downloadable. Edit conflict patterns reveal which topics are genuinely contested. Pageview anomalies sometimes precede news — the crowd knows first.

This project builds a pageview-anomaly news predictor, maps the most-reverted articles by year, and measures the lag between Wikipedia pageview spikes and the first news article covering the same event.

Data sources: Wikimedia Pageviews REST API (free, hourly back to 2015), MediaWiki API for revision history (free, no auth).
